Testing 101

academics,courses,education,forms,pencils,schools,shades,standardized tests,optical mark recognition sheets,entrance exams

Is this your first year to test your child? Do you have questions about the procedure? Do you feel anxious? If so, please know that you are not alone!

Here's the scoop:

  • THESIS acts as a testing center for CHEWV (Christian Home Educators West Virginia) testing, with Liz DeRoos as the TCC (Test Center Coordinator) for Marion County.
  •  In order to have your child tested with THESIS, you must be a member of CHEWV.
  •  If you are not currently a member, do not despair! You can join and pay your membership fee at the same time you sign up for testing.

How do I register for testing?

Click here to register for all types of testing, as well as to download the mail-in registration form.

You may REGISTER ONLINE by midnight this Friday, January 4th, for the earlybird discounted price (a couple of dollars per test) -- but you have until Monday, January 28th to finally register. It is important to get your registration in by that final date, as you may not be able to test with CHEWV if you wait.

If you prefer to mail your registration, and you are a member of CHEWV, you received a newsletter from them with the registration form and instructions for filling it out and mailing it in. If you do not have that form and you cannot get it online, please contact me and I will email you the form. Mail-in registrations receive the earlybird discount if postmarked by January 4th. Final deadline is still January 28th.

Click here for an overview of CHEWV testing and for new information about the 2012-2013 school year.

Click here for information about testing Privately.

Click here for FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

If you still have questions about testing, we will have an informal forum at Trinity on January 18th, at 11:30 (before co-op classes that day). Bring your lunch and your questions, and we'll do our best to help answer them! (Any moms with testing experience are welcome to come and offer encouragement and support!)

Blessings,
Selena Campbell

Ready for Second Semester?

January,months,seasons,snows,text,winter
Hello THESIS Families--

The break was delightful but don't forget that the second semester of THESIS begins this Friday January 4th!

January 4th also marks the last day for early registration for CHEWV Group testing.  Final registration is January 28th so you still have plenty of time.

Speaking of testing, do you have question or concerns?  Come to an informal Q & A session in Trinity's cafe at 11:30 am on Friday January 18th before group classes.  You and the kids can bring your lunch to eat there.  Some of us more "tested" moms will be on hand to answer your questions, or get those answers for you!

ASSISTANT ALERT!  There are two glaring holes in the class assistant schedule!
  1. First Grade (Group B) Gym at 1:40.  If you are already an assistant here, please let me know or put your name on the schedule!
  2. First grade Art at 2:20 needs two replacement assistants for this semester starting this Friday!

Lastly, please keep in mind the Snow Day policy:  If Marion County cancels school for weather, so do we! Click here to check for school closings.

May you have a Blessed New Year!
Warmly,
Liz, for THESIS

High School Career Class

Dear T.H.E.S.I.S. member,

I am teaching a career class to the high schoolers for the second semester and I need you! Why?  I need a variety of careers represented to help the students research options for their future.

What do I need you to do?  Come to class for ten or fifteen minutes, share about your career.
  • How long did it take you to earn your degree?
  • What kind of training did your job require?
  • How many hours a week do you/did you work?
  • Is the job family friendly?
  • What do you love about your career?
  • What do you dislike?
Allow the students to ask a few questions and then you are finished!

Don’t be shy -- ten minutes of sharing could help a student find the right career path, be it homemaker, photographer, beef farmer, accountant, nurse, paramedic, scientist, computer scientist, military, etc....
  • Class dates:  January 4, 11, 18
  • February 1, 8, 15
  • March 1, 15, 22
  • April 5, 12, 19, 26

Email me KathleenGuire (at) gmail (dot) com to schedule a class date.
*Note:  Even if you are not currently employed in your career choice, please come speak!

Blessings,
Kathleen Guire

If you missed the announcement at last week's THESIS meeting, here's the scoop--

We are raffling off a Thirty-One Medium Utility Tote in the snowmuchfun print, for $1.00 per ticket.

The funds collected through this raffle will go toward the THESIS general fund, which reimburses members for cooking turkeys for Thanksgiving and also assists members with various fees when the need arises.

With Christmas coming, this is a great time to take a chance on this festive bag! We will be selling raffle tickets at our co-op meeting this Friday, and also during our evening talent show/Christmas party.

The winner will be drawn that evening, so be sure to get your tickets!

Announcements for Friday, Nov 30th

Hello THESIS Families,

I hope you had a wonderful holiday week off and you're raring to go tomorrow. Can you believe that we have just two more classes before our Christmas break? Time is definitely flying!

Here are some notes for this Friday's class:

  • Liz DeRoos is in need of some small craft/jewelry hammers (these are like miniature rubber mallets), if anyone has some to loan for tomorrow's art class.

  • Speech class students -- do you have your persuasive speech ready for tomorrow?

  • Group C & Group D Money classes raised over $430.00 for mosquito nets! That would not have been possible without the generous donations of people you know. Please be sure to check your mailbox folder for a template quarter-fold thank you card. Feel free to make as many copies as you need, to thank those who gave. (If your child put their name on their donation list, that sheet is in your mailbox folder; if you don't have your copy, there are some on the cafe counter that need to be claimed.)

  • Speaking of claiming things--remember our bank field trip? Some students filled out sample checks but they haven't been claimed yet. Take a look on the counter to see if your child's check is there. They will be discarded, if not picked up this Friday.

  • There will be a Thirty-One drawing next Friday for an exclusive print medium utility tote. Raffle tickets are $1.00 each, and they will be sold during THESIS tomorrow and next Friday. The drawing will be held next Friday, during announcements.  (Proceeds to benefit the THESIS general fund.)

  • Next Friday evening is our Christmas Talent Show! Those who signed up to bless us with their talents will be practicing during next Friday's THESIS classes. We need a mom who can help to coordinate these practices during co-op. Please let us know if you are that mom (or dad)!

  • Also, we are in need of an emcee to introduce the various acts during the Talent Show next Friday night. If there is a middle or high school student who is interested in doing this, please let us know tomorrow!

See you then!

Just a quick note about today:

No classes, since it is field trip Friday.

For those who signed up -- we are meeting at Prickett's Fort, in the main parking lot at 10:00 am, promptly, this morning. They have another group coming in after us, so we must begin our tour on time.

As previously noted, this will last a couple hours and we can eat packed lunches there, if you desire.

The info for the (Shinnston) Lowe Library is:

40 Bridge St, Shinnston, WV 26431 » Map (304) 592-1700

Stephanie Sturm is coordinator for this, and she's been in the hospital so we aren't sure of details. Please contact the library for info about today's field trip.

Enjoy this gorgeous day!

Blessings,
Selena

p.s.  I worked the Compassion table at last night's Newsboys concert in Morgantown and we had almost 130 children sponsored! Praise God!!
