THESIS "Christmas in July" Used Curriculum Sale

academics,books,libraries,Photographs,stacks

Hello Everyone,

Our used curriculum sale is coming up soon, so I am posting some guidelines and info, which will hopefully answer the questions that everyone has.

The sale is THURSDAY, JULY 25th
 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.

Please note: Childcare will not be provided during this sale.

If you are selling things at our sale:

  1. Please plan to stay for the entire sale. Unless you sell out of everything, do not leave before the end time (because if you get tired and leave early, someone else may...and then a domino effect can occur.)
  2. There is no fee to sell.
  3. Please be at Trinity by 8:30, to setup your table. We will enter at the fellowship hall doors. Please contact me, if you need directions.
  4. Sale items will be displayed on the round banquet tables (which seat 10), so please (if you have not already done so) let me know how many tables you will need.
  5. Sellers are in charge of setting up and taking down their sale items, and managing their tables during the sale. Please do not leave the building during the sale hours.
  6. Sellers are in charge of deciding how to price their items (whether to label or just take offers, cash-only, etc--it is up to you).
  7. Please display only curriculum and associated items for sale. (No garage-sale type things (clothes, toys, etc).)
  8. Please clean up your table(s) and take everything with you that does not sell, even if you don't care if it is thrown away.  (There is a Goodwill close by.)

If you are shopping at the sale:

  1. Be sure to bring cash, in case a seller doesn't accept checks.
  2. The sale will start promptly at 9:00 am, and end at 12:00 pm. Please plan accordingly.
  3. If you haven't planned your school year, pray for wisdom so you don't buy something you don't need! (Not that I have any experience with that...)

If you have any questions, or you can think of anything I didn't cover, please let me know!

Blessings,
Selena Campbell

Blogging Workshop and Used Curriculum Sale

academics,books,libraries,Photographs,stacks

Hello Everyone,

Just a couple notes about upcoming events:

The Basic Blogging workshop for tomorrow (Sat, 7/6) is canceled. Selena Campbell's mom broke her hip and had a replacement, so she's busy helping her mom out with the house and other things. It may be rescheduled in August. Time will tell...

The Used Curriculum Sale is still on for Thursday, July 25th. The fellowship hall doors at Trinity will be opened at 8:30 for everyone to bring in their goods for setup.

So far, I have four people signed up to sell items. If you are interested in selling, there is no fee. I just need to know how many tables you have so we have enough for everyone. Please send me an email, or comment on this post, if you plan to sell. Just tell me your name, phone number, and how many tables you will need. (The round tables that typically seat eight are the ones we will use).

Our sale is opened to anyone, so if someone outside of THESIS would like to sell, just have them contact me (Selena Campbell).

Hope everyone is enjoying this amazing weather!

Used Curriculum for Sale

Hi Everyone,

If you are not able to make it to the used curriculum sale on Thursday, July 25, from 9-noon (setup at 8:00 in Trinity's fellowship hall), you are welcome to put your items for sale in a comment at the end of this message.

In order for someone to contact you about your item(s), please include the following:

  • Title and grade/level of curriculum
  • What subject it is, if that isn't obvious
  • Your price
  • Your name
  • Your phone and email

To protect your email address from being hijacked, please use the following format:

your_address(at) domain (dot) com

For example, mine would be:

campbells (at) ma (dot) rr (dot) com

The first comment is for curriculum being sold by Barbara Sims.

If you ARE planning to come to the sale, please contact me with your name, and the number of tables you will need. We will use the round tables normally in the fellowship hall, unless someone specifically needs a rectangular one.

Used Curriculum for Sale

Hi Everyone,

I know that registration is around the corner (in fellowship hall at Trinity, August 14th, at 12:30 for returning members and 2:00 for new members), and the beginning of the school year (for those taking summers off) is starting soon. So, most of us have our minds on curriculum and lesson plans.

Maybe you wanted to come to the used curriculum sale and couldn't make it, or maybe you were there but didn't find what you were looking for.

If so, please use this post as a means to comment about what you have for sale, or to note the items you are looking for, and hopefully it will help us all.

Be as specific as you can so others will know what you need or what you are selling. And don't forget to leave your name and contact phone number! (I do not recommend leaving an email address, as spam programs can pick it up and target your email.)

Thanks!

Selena Campbell

Christmas in July Used Curriculum Sale

Hello Everyone,

Are you enjoying the up and down temps of our summer so far? You never know whether to bring a jacket or sun screen with you. Fun times.

We are planning a used curriculum sale, along with two other Marion county homeschool co-ops, to be held on Tuesday, July 24th, from 9:00 - noon, in the fellowship hall at Trinity. (There may also be some locals vendors on site to offer their educational wares.)

Here are some guidelines:

1.  Be there 10-15 minutes early to set up.

2. Clearly mark the price on an envelope, along with your "payable to" name, if accepting checks, or CASH ONLY, and put it with the curriculum item(s) for sale.

3. Only educational items should be brought to this sale--no garage sale items (such as used clothing).

4.  You are responsible for your own set-up, take-down, and supervision of materials. Please do not leave things for us to clean up, even if you don't care that they are thrown away. If you want to give away things to keep from taking them back home, please announce that 30 minutes or more before the sale is over.

If you are planning to sell anything during this event, or if you have any questions, please leave me a comment, so we will be sure to have enough tables available.

Thank you!

Curriculum

Hello Everyone!

I know we just finished up our school year, but there are many families who begin planning next year's curriculum right away. In light of that, we are going to have some curriculum reviews posted soon.

Please leave a comment, if there is a particular curriculum you are interested in, and we will do our best to post a review for it. (And, if you are willing to write a review for a curriculum, please leave a comment regarding which curriculum you've used.)

One more thing --  there is a new homeschooling mom who is interested in the Sonlight readers for this coming year (this is the 4-book set with the yellow word list book, and the red, blue and green readers). If you have this set and would like to sell it, please leave a comment.

Curriculum Need

Fellow Homeschooling Families,

If anyone has any curriculum for 10th grade that you would be willing to pass along (or sell at a deep discount) to a new homeschooler in need of supplies, please contact me directly, or put a comment on this post.

Thank you!

Registration & Used Curriculum Sale

Yes, believe it or not, registration is upon us!

Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 23, from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Trinity Assembly of God, THESIS administrators (and some teachers) will be available to assist you in registering for new classes and signing up to assist with our co-op.

During this time, you will also be able to sell and/or peruse used curriculum. If you have not already done so, please be sure to notify Liz DeRoos or Selena Campbell that you are selling something, so we can be sure to have a table available for your items.

At registration, you will receive the normal new school year packet of info, with class descriptions and a schedule, along with the fall THESIS newsletter. There will be signup sheets for helping in various areas, as well as a signup for our first field trip of the year to the National Aviary in Pittsburgh.

See you then!

Proposed Class Schedule & More

I hope that everyone is wringing out every last drop of summer from the days that we have left because before we know it, fall will be upon us. Although it wasn't quite as cool as a true fall day, it felt like fall as I sat out in my garage-porch listening to the rain showers this morning. I do love fall, so I'm not sad about the heat passing. I will, however, sorely miss my garden veggies!

If you haven't already taken a look, our proposed class schedule is available now under the "Class Schedule" tab at the top of this blog. We are excited about the new classes, and the new format for this year. Hopefully, things will move along smoothly and the weather won't interfere much with our schedule. I once heard that the water table has to be at a certain level for the year, meaning that a great deal of rain in spring and summer means little snowfall in winter. We shall see!

I also want to remind everyone that registration is fast approaching, and with it will be our first (annual?) used curriculum sale. Tuesday, August 23rd, we will have open registration and a curriculum sale from 1-4. You can come when you like, leave when you like. Just be sure to RSVP to Liz DeRoos (304.534.5822), if you plan to sell something, so we can reserve a table for you. You don't have to stay the whole time, but if you are selling, make sure that you come back to pick up your money and any unsold items!

Speaking of curriculum, maybe you are struggling to get your lessons planned, or just to wrap your mind around this great responsibility of educating your children. THESIS, being a faith-based group, believes that God is the center from whom all things flow. Here are some thoughts, based on that philosophy:

  • Science -- God created the world and all the amazing things in it
  • Math -- things work in an orderly fashion because God designed them that way
  • History -- history is all about God sending Jesus to redeem us, and His master plan
  • Language Arts -- the great commission is to tell others about Jesus, and writing and reading help us to do that well (always be prepared to give an answer for the faith you profess)
  • Literature -- reading about the lives of others helps us to see God's power at work
  • Economics -- we are called to be good stewards
  • Government -- governments and rulers are in place because God put them there (so we should be praying for our president, whether or not we like him!)
  • Arts -- God has given us different ways to express worship to Him, through music, art, dance, etc.
  • Health -- God's plan for our health, both physically and spiritually

Registration & Used Curriculum Sale

Does anyone else think that summer is flying by? I can't believe that we've already peaked at the longest day of the year. When the weather is cool and breezy, I find my heart already beginning to yearn for fall...And, speaking of time flying, our registration for next year is less than two months away!

We are trying something new this year. On Tuesday, August 23rd, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the fellowship hall at Trinity, we will be holding a drop-in registration. You can "drop in" anytime during that period to sign up for THESIS membership and classes, and to select an area in which to help out. We hope this format will limit some of the chaos of having everyone there at the same time, and that it will allow for members (new and returning) to get questions answered. (There will not be child care during this registration period. Your child(ren) may play on the playground outside the fellowship hall, but everyone is responsible for their own child(ren).)

Also during that time, we will have a cash-n-carry used curriculum sale. This will also be held in the fellowship hall, and sellers will be responsible for clearly labeling anything they put out by using this method:

  • Label a small envelope with owner's name, the title of item(s) for sale, and the price.
  • Tuck envelope inside for-sale item and place it on the table.

Anyone who wants to purchase an item will remove the envelope and fill it with cash, then place it in the designated area. (Please, no checks or IOU's without approval of the specific person selling the item.)

Sellers may stay with their curriculum, or they can come back at the end of the sale and pick up their money and/or unsold items. All sellers displaying things for sale are responsible for retrieving their unsold things by 3:45 p.m.

**Please note: sets of encyclopedias, and other dinosaur-era learning materials that are highly unlikely to be sold should not be brought to this event!**

If you want to sell something, you may come to the fellowship hall as early as 12:45 p.m. to display things. If you are looking for something particular, just post the item as a comment to this blog entry, and hopefully someone will have it to sell!

Questions? Just give one of the administrators a call.

Blessings,
Selena
